They say you learn something new everyday

Today I learned there is no greater display of affection than when your 1 year old puts you in a headlock while nursing at 5 AM. LOL!

So, how's your day going?

Suggestions Please

I want to make some baked goodies for the guys in hubby's shop that are deployed right now. Does anybody have any suggestions? I want something that will ship well and withstand fairly high temperatures. I'm trying to avoid sending just cookies, but I may have to. Anyway, if you have any suggestions, please leave me a comment. :)

Frugal Storage/Organization Tips

Greetings my fellow Americans. I trust you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We certainly did! We were invited to eat with a family from church and oh, about 25 other people. I thought there was no way we were going to have enough food, but to my surprise there were mounds of leftovers when it was all said and done. Which is the semi-inspiration for this post. What to do with all those leftovers. Here are some inexpensive storage ideas that I have discovered work just as well or better than the $5 containers you can buy at the store.

-Save any suitable food container that has a lid. I love glass containers, but some plastics work well too. (ex. spaghetti sauce jars, baby food jars, mayo jars, peanut butter jars, jelly jars, butter tubs, frosting containers, etc) When the container is empty, just wash it and you have yourself a handy leftover container for free. I love to spray paint the tops black and tie a little ribbon around them. They look so cute you almost forget what they used to be. I use mine for all kinds of things like leftover soups, storing brown and powdered sugar and flax seed, as well as for keeping small amounts of laundry detergent upstairs for when I need to handwash something. This would also be a great way to organize craft or sewing materials.

-I also save some small plastic containers without lids to use as practice cups for Tyler. He is learning to use a regular cup and these are great to have on hand and much cheaper than store bought cups.

I hope somebody out there finds this helpful. :) I'm off to bed now.

Until next time...

Uh-Oh

Hubby just reminded me that I have to make a turkey or ham for his squadron's Thanksgiving lunch on Wednesday. I don't have either one. Which one do you think will thaw faster?? I'll have to pick it up after church tomorrow.

Guess I better go clear out a place for it in the fridge...

Quick Update

My thoughts are scattered and my time is short, but I wanted to give a quick update on what's been going on with us.

Things have been more busy than I can possibly describe without taking an insane amount of time recounting details that wouldn't interest you anyway. So, I'll hit the highlights for you.

-We just finished up missions conference at church. It was wonderful!! We got to go to church 8 times in 1 week. I love going to church!

-I have been going to sewing class at church on Thursday mornings. We are working on making quilt squares for an upcoming ladies retreat. I am really enjoying learning about sewing. It is also a sweet time of fellowship with the other ladies. There is usually more giggling than working going on, but that's okay.

-Tyler is just the silliest little boy in the world anymore. He is sooooo funny. He new favorite word is uh-oh. He says it for everything. Especially when he does something he knows he shouldn't, it is usually followed by an "uh-oh momma". Very cute. He also loves to point at your eyes, mouth and nose. The nose is his favorite and he can almost say nose but not quite .

-Justin and Becky K. finally arrived here at Whiteman and we have been doing lots of running around together. Tyler and Blayne are so funny together. There are so funny to watch. They love to share food, but not toys. People ask all the time if they're twins. :)

-The weather has been crazy here the past few weeks. Some days it will only get into the 40's and then the next day it will be 70. The leaves are still on the trees and they are beautiful. I forgot how beautiful fall is.

Well, I best be going. The day is calling. I hope to post more soon.
